Autonomous ones devastate Rostock

This eruption surprised all: From a peaceful demo extremely brutally proceeding autonomous one started a Orgie of the force, which paralyzed the Baltic Sea city over hours. Back remained devastated roads, burned out cars and dozens hurt, among them alone 150 policemen.

If the two demonstration courses had calmly run by the city still up to few losses, the situation was intensified parallel to the demonstration at the city port of Rostock. Trip of the force was according to organizer a lonely police car, which was to have been parked on the demonstration area and which annoyance of some fanatics is to have excited.

Officials with helmets and batons stormed by the roads. At many central crossings employment vehicles were stationed, driven water throwers and used traenengas. In the end the police with clearing vehicles stood no longer far from the stage, where still the well-known volume July had played briefly before.

The police counted about 2000 autonomous ones. Against it 5000 officials were in the use. During the road battles for hours 146 policemen were hurt. Some it are so heavily wounded that they had to be brought in the hospital. Over hurt one on sides of the demonstrators there are so far no numbers. From 49 humans the identities were determined.

The organizers of the large demonstration had considered in the meantime a premature abort of the meeting, had decided then however the culture and concert program as to be held planned. From the autonomous force authors they dissociated themselves: "there is no justification for the attack on persons", said Attac Aktivist Werner Raetz. The arguments is "not at all in the sense of the organizers".

Many several ten thousand demonstrators locally had fled in panic. Dozens were arrested. At the medical cars long queues of demonstrator, most formed suffered under the consequences of traenengas.

The groups demonstrated for world trade politics, which orient themselves at social rights, democracy and environmental protection.

In the evening Rostock worked then as in the state of siege. Umgestuerzte and burned out cars blocked some roads. Everywhere lay partly Kilo-heavy paving-stones, which had used the autonomous ones as projectiles. Adjacents resident leaned shocked at their windows.
